A proud husband, dog lover and foster carer, snooker player, trumpet player - and I know a bit about Wills, Probate and the Administration of Estates too!

Experience
Over 15 years' experience as a Probate Practitioner, in the main spent in the Executor's Department of one of the "Big 4" UK Banks where, latterly, I held a Managerial Role heading up a team of Estates Practitioners and taking overall responsibility for the Estates administered by the Team.
I was then, in 2022, able to carry that experience into the role of Senior Legacy Officer with a large national animal Charity, where I was responsible for protecting and maximising a multi-million pound caseload of wonderful and generous Legacies bequeathed to the Charity in the Wills of their late supporters.

How did the idea for ASB come about?

With many years' experience in the Probate space, both as a Probate Practitioner, and within a Charity Legacy Team, I’ve seen first‑hand the pressures Estates Practitioners face and how time‑consuming many parts of the Probate and estate administration process can be. When inboxes overflow, phone calls and meetings don’t stop, and core tasks like initial letters, IHT400s, Estate Accounts, or R185s still need completing, the pressure quickly builds — a situation many practitioners will recognise.
These labour‑intensive tasks often pull fee earners away from more lucrative client work, affecting both time management and profitability. Time is frequently written off to keep costs reasonable and aligned with estimates, especially in a cost‑sensitive market.
Managing capacity is therefore essential for maintaining service quality and commercial efficiency. But firms face challenges such as staff turnover, illness, parental leave, or simply being overwhelmed by workload. Recruitment or consultancy support can help, but both require significant, long‑term financial commitment — assuming the budget even exists.
The alternative is simply “toughing it out,” stretching the existing team in trying to keep clients happy. Yet this risks jeopardising a firm’s greatest asset: its people. Your people perform at their best, and most profitably for you, when given the time and space to focus on the complex, valuable work — not when hindered by time‑sapping tasks. And for firms wanting to grow their Probate offering, capacity constraints can make expansion feel out of reach.
ASB Probate Services was created with all of this in mind.
How can we help?

ASB Probate Services will act as your firm’s trusted Probate partner, working as an extension of your Probate Department to take on time‑consuming tasks at any stage of the estate administration process. We can help maximise departmental efficiency, and free up your team to focus on supporting clients, and more profitable client work.
Each instruction relates to a specific piece of work, each charged at a fixed fee (please see our Charges page for a full breakdown). With this itemised model, you retain full control of the matter whilst gaining support from an experienced probate professional. You simply select the tasks you want completed in the background ready for your approval, and signoff by the Executor(s).
Our itemised model also means you can switch on and switch off when needed to tie in with your workload, with no contract commitment. And because each job is itemised, it affords flexibility in how our charges are handled—whether treated as an estate disbursement, absorbed into your fees, or covered by your department’s budget.
In summary, ASB Probate Services delivers discreet, flexible, and expert probate support—offering a refined alternative to recruitment and empowering your Probate Department to perform at its highest level.
